Asansol Division established in 1925. This is single of the oldest parts of the Indian Railways and has constantly been in the forefront of operations, both load and passenger. As far as Eastern Railway is concerned, Asansol Division is named to as the center of operations, being at the critical point of the Grand Chord route via Gaya and the main line route via Patna. With a total of 594.9 route kilometers, the class has the singular distinction of having quadruple lines (two up and two down the melodic phrase) from Khana to Sitarampur. It serves Asansol and the surrounding regions.
