MGR Chennai Railway Division
Chennai railway division is a railway section of the Southern Railway (SR), India covering the territories of Northern Tamil Nadu and southern Andhra Pradesh. Presently it holds a road distance of over 697.42 km. [2] Its administrative headquarters is established in Chennai, which also happens to be the home base of the Southern Railway. The Chennai Central Station was opened in 1873 with only four platforms and George Hard Ring designed the edifice. The duplication of the main edifice was added in 1998. Presently, Chennai Central is having 12 platforms. Even though the division has dropped the first Railway line of India, the division is the first in operating the elevated track in India.
